POEMS

Each week we read poems with the girls. They share their stories through their writing!

Once upon a time another UD student, Bain Manley, would visit the girls with Ms. Em, Katrina and I. Now that he is graduated he is off to being an English teacher! last November we had an event where UD students were able to come hear the girls poetry. Bain wrote this specifically for the event and even to this day the girls read his poem!

So without further ado…

For His Beautiful Flower

Just who you think she is?
Huh? Tell me please?
Cuz I can tell by the way
That you do what you please
That right now
You’re wrong
You’ve left the truth behind you
But from this day forward,
Don’t look back-
Don’t look back again-
Don’t at her back again.
Oh but you think it’s fine
To lust for her cuz she’s fine.
Fine.
Come find me.
Matter fact,
Her heavenly father will find you,
Eternally confine you,
O you’re confused and confounded,
Let me break it down then.
See, you admire her curves,
You admire her lines,
But God designed those lines
Bent lines and drew curves
Every part of her He meticulously configured,
Dotted her eyes-
Perfected her subtle T’s
Commanded every strand of hair she has on her head to grow
Then numbered them
Then counted her His masterpiece
So pardon me, but I just don’t take kindly to the desecration of His majesty’s artistry–

The apple of His eye
Object of His holy affection
His Mona Lisa.

Allow me to paint a picture…
You enter a museum
Mishandle and abuse an exhibit
Cracking it
You think you won’t pay for it?
Allow me to paint another picture
You enter her life
Mishandle her body and abuse her heart
Treating her like cheap art
And you think you won’t pay for that?
You think you won’t pay for every tear rolling down a face that ALMIGHTY GOD molded handcrafted into place?

And brothers, we are all guilty of perpetuating the lies.
See lies lie in her ears and in her eyes
That’s why I heard she don’t like guys
And when she looks in the mirror she just cries cries cries.
See lies produce pain, pain produce tears, and tears cloud vision,
No wonder she can’t see her reflection
So I’ll call her and give her my perception
Ring ring ring
Something wrong with her reception
Static coming in from
Nicky Minaj on the radios
Thin twerkin models on the videos

Can you hear me now?
She said: “they calling me ugly on the playground and they are sooo LOUD!!” *SO click
Redial
Can you hear me now?
She said “it’s hard to hear you over the loud and pompous “smash her then pass her” mentality.
See he hit me and quit me so casually” *soo CLICK
Redial
Can you hear me now?
She said “it’s hard to hear you right now over the screams of my momma being beaten by my daddy, not to mention my little sister is in the corner & she is crying out for her daddy” *so CLICK
Redial
Can you hear me now?
She said “I can’t hear you right now, the silence of no daddy too loud”
I said “what?!” She said “I can’t hear you right now,
The silence of no daddy too loud”
So I’m not here right now
Matter fact I’m in hell
So leave a message after the pause.”

“PSLAM 139:14 YOU ARE FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE
And made to be more
than ya hair
More than ya nails.
More than your thighs, eyes, and skin tone
You are more
You are more

You were not made to make guys wanna touch you
You were not made to make someone wanna love you
You were made to be His daughter
Even if you aint have no father
You were made to be his child
And Innocent as a flower
They may have kicked dirt on you
Soiled you
And the arms that were supposed to protect you left you
Leaving you polluted
But I beg you
Don’t succumb to it
Downplay and sleep on yourself
Rise and shine
Rise and see that you were made to shine
You were made to reflect the Son
Be the object of His affection
And just to show you how much you’re worth
He cleaned your stains with the liquid from His own veins
And just to show you how much you’re worth
He cleaned your stains with the blood from His own veins

You can still be innocent
You can still be pure
You can still be a flower
You can still bloom
Cuz thats what you were made to do
Since you sprouted out the womb.

This is a message from
A son of a Father that loves his daughter”
